Vietnam Discovery : A small corner in the heart of a big city

“Mum, I made it on Vietnamese TV!”—words I never imagined I’d say, but here we are!

Recently, I had the exciting opportunity to be featured in an episode of Vietnam Discovery, a show that dives into the lives of foreigners in Vietnam. The episode follows me as I explore the hidden streets of Ho Chi Minh City, offering a unique glimpse into the city through the lens of photography.

I shared my approach with the host, Petey, focusing on capturing spontaneous, layered moments that highlight the vibrancy and organized chaos of the city. At one point, I challenged him to find locals in the market and return photos I had taken to them - emphasizing the importance of building relationships and capturing candid, authentic moments within the community. My goal with these photography tours is not only to help people improve their photography, but also to help them discover Ho Chi Minh City in a different way - not just as tourists, but as observers of its vibrant daily life and culture.

Being part of Vietnam Discovery was a fantastic experience, and I’m grateful for the chance to share my passion for street photography and the city that has become my home. It was an opportunity to show viewers a side of Saigon that most people miss, highlighting how photography can bring out the beauty in everyday moments. While I’m definitely more comfortable behind the camera, it’s good to step out of your comfort zone once in a while!

If you’re curious about seeing Ho Chi Minh City in a new light, be sure to check out the episode.
